The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program provides new clothing and/or toys for children. A sponsoring company or corporation places a Christmas tree in a secure, high pedestrian traffic area or lobby. The tree is decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child who will receive the gift. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. The toys are then delivered to the unit and later picked up by the parent to distribute to the child/children on Christmas Day.

The Salvation Army’s Mission 66 Diner The Mission 66 Diner is a ministry of the local Vicksburg Salvation Army providing hot meals Monday through Friday from 12 noon until 1 pm, as well as groceries for individuals and families in need. The meal and groceries are provided free of charge. Over the past several years, Bowmar has held annual food drives prior to the holidays in an effort to shore up the pantry’s supply of canned and non-perishable goods. There is also a group of volunteers from Bowmar that serve weekly at the Mission 66 Diner. Operation Christmas Child, the highly successful project of Samaritan’s Purse,  has helped literally millions of children, parents, and young adults around the world experience the true meaning of Christmas through their shoe-box program. However, the Operation Christmas Child ministry extends far beyond a gift-filled shoe box. The goal of the project is to offer children the opportunity to participate in the Operation Christmas Child Discipleship Program, and to give every graduate of this exciting program a New Testament in their local language. The program encourages children to grow in their faith and to share their faith with their friends.
